RE: RV Price Busters

My understanding, from when we purchased from them last year, is that RV Price Buster's is just the internet division of Best Buy RV. If they are out of business so is RV Price Busters.

RE: Patio Mats

J & J Sunshines, the dealer from the Tampa Show RVmats, makes the best mats in the RV business...bar none!! Not only do they hold up forever, are easy to clean and store, as the fold up really small. They have a lifetime guarantee...they will replace them if they ever tear or come apart...no questions asked. Actually, have never met ANYONE who's had to have one replaced...ours is 4 years old and is like new. One other thing most people don't realize about these mats...they do NOT blow up in the wind. We've never had to stake it down, ever, and we get some pretty strong winds here in the RGV...they just stay where you put them. We too have their sunscreen and love it as much as the mat. Their products are well worth the money...and you only have to buy them once. Can't tell you how many times we replaced the "camping world" mats.

RE: Trade-in or re-sale value of RV with pets

If a unit is kept clean, and cleaned quite well prior to trade-in, no one should ever even suspect a pet...every trade-in we ever had, the question wasn't "did you have pets?"...it was usually something like "this thing is so clean...did you ever use it?". And we've ALWAYS had pets!! Common sense says if someone can tell you had a pet, then yes, trade-in will be affected...if they can't, no it won't...that simple!

RE: Charging for pets

One thing I've always thought about and resent a little is that when pet owners leave the RV for a long period, such as for a workamping job, they have to leave the AC on which I seldom do as a non-pet owner. Therefore, more electricity is used which I presumably share in the cost and it certainly cost the campground owner more. Also, no doubt, the campground owner has to clean up some as pet owners do not always. I guess that makes us "bad" RVer's...pet or not, on hot days I leave the A/C on as it takes a long time to cool the place down after it's heated up all day...so what's the difference???

RE: Caution Heavy Duty Truck Owners

My F-250 has a built in immobilzer, the 6.0 diesel.(you have to admit that's funny) You are absolutely right...that is just too funny!!!:B

RE: Left handed rig

This is the same floorplan as Heartland's new Landmark Oakmont...almost exactly! All hookups, etc., are still on same side. This would be something hard to change, since virtually all sites are laid out to accommodate hookups on the off-door side...

RE: HAS THOUSAND TRAILS SPOILED ME?

This is why we have more than one membership!!! Allows us to use membership camping 365 days a year. Don't have TT yet, but looking for a good re-sale. Most we ever pay is $10.00 a night, and usually we pay nothing when moving around the country thanks to ROD. Can't imagine being fulltime without memberships.

Go to the Escapees forum and contact Jack Mayer...he owns a Royals International and is VERY knowledgable about the product...

RE: heartland 5ers

Another vote for Heartland. Have owned our Bighorn for 1.5 years, and are fulltiming in it. Had a few issues, but Heartland is the best I've ever dealt with in customer service...bar none! When they come out with the right floor plan I'll probably own a Landmark...hard to find anything to compare for the money, very good build quality and excellent factory support!

RE: 18K Newbie, desperate for tow unit advice

Bellm1...we've operated this way for more than 3 years. In all that time the only instance we ever had with an LEO is when we forgot to remove the magnetic sign from side of the truck adn pulled into a rest stop...he asked a few questions...told him it was just advertising, we pulled the sign off and went on our way! Never had any officer ever follow us into a venue, or vending location...EVER! Like I said we keep the truck and trailer looking as "personal" as possible and there is never a problem. DOT should have no reason to question a "personal RV". We too carry all of our stock and equipment in the cargo hold...they have no reason or right to inspect a private vehicle unless they have probable cause...give them none...there is nothing they can do. RE: Dealerships bankrupt and not paying off trade-in loans!

I've traded in many vehicles over the years, however, I've NEVER been upside down in my loans. I've always made certain that the value was more than what I owed and that the difference was applied as a downpayment on the new loan. Never had to rollover anything still owed, cause I got more than I owed. I also have always kept a vehicle at minimum two to three years BEFORE trading, and often longer than that...this new "situation" with dealers going belly up will keep me holding onto my vehicles ALOT longer and probably selling them outright to avoid being ripped off and stuck with both loans! Looks like today's economic situation is going to change the way alot of people handle their personal finances...although unfortunate, probably a good thing in the long run!

RE: 18K Newbie, desperate for tow unit advice

We too run a Kodiak/Topkick like the campingman, and have found it to more than enough truck for your needs. To answer your other question concerning the DOT...we also run a business on the road and to avoid ANY problems with DOT we've done the following. The truck and trailer are both registered as private recreational vehicles thru South Dakota. In addition we use magnetic business signage on the side of the truck and DO NOT use them when towing the trailer, only when it is detached. We also have painted on both sides of the truck "Private RV not for Hire". When we are towing down the road we look just like any other private RV. These two precautions have caused us NO problems whatsoever with DOT...and we make as much money as we want on the road...just keep the two things separate and you are good to go!! P.S. As for mileage expense...you can still write off all you business mileage on taxes, even if your vehicles are privately held.

RE: Holiday Rambler Owners

Just be glad you have an older model unit...we had an 07' Alumascape and could not wait to get rid of it after only ten months! Had very serious issues and Monaco was horrible to deal with. Monaco ruined what used to be a very well built RV.

RE: The very TIRED TIRE issue

Another vote for Michelin XPS Ribs...never have heard of a problem with them, and we never had any with them when we could use an E rated tire.
kakampers 10/16/08 05:24pm Fifth-Wheels
RE: Tire shop says "No" for Mich Ribs???

Not all LT tires are created equal...what makes the Michelin XPS Rib stand out among the rest is the steel belted sidewall. If you put one next to a regular LT tire you will see and feel the difference (weight wise)...there is no comparison. This heavier sidewall allows them to take the twisting and turning that trailer towing places on the tires, much better than even most ST tires. I would not risk my rig to just ANY LT tire...or for that matter, just ANY tire period! IF I could use E load tires, Michelin XPS Ribs are what would be on my trailer...period!!

RE: Combo washer/dryers ??

You are more than welcome...

RE: Combo washer/dryers ??

Curt...don't even bother with the stack kit that you can get for placing the dryer directly on top of the washer...it's a piece of garbage. DH ended up building a platform for the dryer to raise it above washer and allow access to the electric, water shutoff and the dryer vent hose. See photos here Also, if you can't find the washer we have, I've seen several MH that use the top load washer unit with my dryer and the setup seems to work very well, if you can raise the dryer high enough. As for dinner...a good rib-eye steak sounds great!!:B
